“Peace Is the New Power”

Recently, I was thumbing through a Yoga Journal magazine and came across an ad titled “Peace is the new power.”  Since the word ‘peace’ is my word for 2017, I naturally stopped to take in those words.  “Peace is the new power.”  I truly believe that peace is power; that the power of peace is transformative and what is needed today more than ever.

What would the world be like if everyone in every country became a wave of peace?  How would we relate to one another?  How would our world leaders relate to one another.  How would we treat our planet earth?  What amazing agreements might be made if everyone, everywhere became a wave of peace?

If each of us decided to become peace, to live peace, to speak peace, to create peace within ourselves, that peace would radiate outward into our individual worlds.  But that wouldn’t be the end of it, for like a pebble tossed into the water, rippling outward, our peaceful states-of-being would meet and merge with others’ peaceful ripples, creating a powerful tsunami.  And the tsunami would touch others who have yet to become peace, starting their peace ripples rolling.  The collective tsnuami of peace waves plus peaceful action through word and deed will have the power to create a better world for all of it’s citizens, for all of us.

Does this sound like a dream?  Some might think so.  I prefer to think otherwise.  There is power in people coming together for a cause.  Why not have the cause be ‘being peace.’  Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, “It is my conviction that there is no way to peace – peace is the way.”  (Thich Nhat Hanh, The Art of Power)

I, too, believe that peace is the way to better living, to a better world.  It starts with each of us.  Be peace.  Breathe peace.  Live peace.  Create peace.  Let peace be the new power in our world.

    Dear Sandy,

This is lovely. Someone said at Church on Sunday that she wishes she would hear the word “love” used outside of church. Love is my word this life. And peace is part of that.

Yours in the New Power, Trish

Thanks, Trish, for your comment. Yes, I agree. Love is part of peace and peace is part of love…. Peaceful blessings in the New Power, Sandy
